Aaron Selverston is a journalist, drummer, and electronic musician. His interest in nonfiction has spanned subjects as diverse as the effect of global warming on small Pacific Island nations (NPR, Salon.com) to the role of the U.S. military in the Horn of Africa (CNN). He is currently producing dirty, sexy, 8-bit dark wave dance beats in his basement studio, and recently started a new band... still in its infancy.

Aaron has recently launched a new blog called California Climate Watch exploring California's unique role in the fight against climate change. Aaron speaks with environmental scientists and activists about how California is affected by and leading the charge against global warming.

Aaron is also hosting a web radio show broadcast on Shoutingfire, a year-round platform for sound and vision that engages and amplifies the ethos of Black Rock City. Shoutingfire offers art, politics, activism, music, news, and interviews.

investigative documentary series, "Frontline,"
on PBS, Aaron's work appeared on CNN, NPR, Salon.com,
and elsewhere. He has a Master's degree from the
Graduate School of Journalism at UC Berkeley.

piece is one of three produced under a Carnegie
/ Knight Fellowship focusing on the
US Military abroad, outside of Iraq and
Afghanistan. Our piece
follows US troops in Djibouti,
East Africa, as they attempt a modern "hearts
and minds" campaign using civil affairs
techniques.

That this piece is airing during
